This post is all about lymphatic drainage at home.
It is a massage technique that uses light pressure to move lymphatic fluid to your lymph nodes to eliminate toxins. In recent years there has been lots of scientific research on the lymph system and its importance to your overall health.
Lymphatic drainage massage can be used on all parts of the body. I typically like to focus on my limbs (arms and legs) and face where I feel I hold the most inflammation. Lymphatic drainage can be performed with just your hands, in fact, in The Book of Lymph, Lisa gives lots of step by step tutorials of massage to address specific concerns by just using your hands. My lymphatic drainage routine mostly uses tools, since I find them to be a bit more efficient. I also take a supplement to support my lymph system and drink tons of water. At the bottom of this post I have linked some resources to learn more about Lymphatic Drainage.
No matter which part of the body you working on, there are six things to keep in mind.
For my body/ limbs, I like to use a dry brush all over my limbs before getting in the shower, or just when I want to work on decreasing cellulite in my legs. After showering, I like to apply body oil and use my body paddle to sculpt the body. I use long sweeping strokes from my ankles to knees then from my knees to my hips. For my arms, I typically just going from my elbow to my shoulder. Some people like to use the paddle on their torso, but I do not like the feeling on my stomach.
For my face, I like to use a gua sha and my NuFace device. I like to the gua sha after applying cleansing oil or after applying face oil as the last step of my skin routine. Whenever I am feeling particularly puffy or want to look my best before an event I like to sculpt my face. I typically put most of the focus under my eyes, cheekbones, and jawline.
